Elton John is a diva. Bigtime. He has a wardrobe bigger than Broadway, buys sunglasses like others buy gum - and he has one of the best voices in the world. He's done it all, both musically and privately, and now in his mid 50's he's still standing on his own two feet. Impressive!
I discovered Elton when "Lion King" was released. The rest is history, really. I've been to two concerts in Oslo in three years, and I can't wait for the next one. Watching and listening to him perform is heaven. I'm walking around in a trance for days afterwards. The gigs are always filled up to the very edge - people will hang from the ceiling if they have to. Hell, I would have! He adores us as much - if not more - we adore him.
He's not afraid of getting emotional. Whether it's anger or tears. When I saw him in 2000, he did "American Triangle" about the young gay boy who was dragged to his death in Wyoming. We were watching him on the big screens, and he was crying. At the end of the song he didn't get up and greet the audience like he did between every other song, but went straight on to "Nikita". Nobody blamed him.
When I was in London in the summer of '99 I got his "Tantrums and tiaras" for 49p at HMV and it's sooo real! I almost laughed to death. Then I saw "An Audience with Elton John" and was blown away totally when he made a song out of the user's manual for Richard E. Grant's oven. This man is a living legend!
